# Apple Japan: New Year Sale vs Education Pricing

Published by Muchita Shopping · Updated 2026-10-02 · Canonical: https://shopping.muchita.ai/guides/apple-new-year-education/

Check education eligibility and the identical device first; then compare the required transaction charges. A promotional Apple card is value for later use, so do not subtract it again from the amount billed. January 2027 campaign terms are unconfirmed here as of October 2, 2026.

## In short

- Apple determines education eligibility, including admitted-student and parent-proxy conditions.
- Match the full device and package, then add every required billed line and keep future Apple credit separate.
- The 2025 and 2026 examples are expired; January 2027 dates, models, benefits and combinations are not established.

> Muchita wrote this Japan guide using current Apple pages and archived Apple-authored campaign terms checked on October 2, 2026. We reproduce no current seller prices and have not completed a student purchase or tested a Japan retailer search. This is general purchasing information, not legal advice; Apple determines eligibility. Muchita is independent of Apple.

## Which route fits the buyer, before any gift-card calculation?

For a buyer in Japan, education pricing is worth checking first if the buyer qualifies. Compare the amount charged for the identical configuration, then decide whether a separate promotion's future Apple credit has a use you already planned. There is no universal winner for every student, parent or device.

On October 2, 2026, [Apple's live New Year terms address](https://www.apple.com/jp/shop/gifts/new-year/terms-conditions) redirects to the Japan store; this guide has no confirmed January 2027 campaign dates, eligible models, benefits or combination rules. You can still check current qualified education and ordinary retail offers without assuming a future promotion.

| Route | Use it when... | Compare this |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Japan education store | Apple confirms eligibility and the product is offered on those terms | Actual amount charged for your exact device/package |
| Ordinary Japan retail | The seller offers the same new configuration on terms you can use | Verified outright item price on the same tax/currency basis |
| New Year device-plus-card promotion | Current full campaign terms confirm buyer, device and package eligibility | Every required charged line, with restricted later credit separately |

## Admission and parent-proxy rules matter.

[Apple's Japan education terms](https://www.apple.com/jp-edu/shop/open/salespolicies) cover specified higher-education students and pupils admitted to those institutions with progression decided. A high-school student is not eligible merely because they are a student. The listed categories also include eligible staff, active or elected PTA officials and specified preparatory/vocational groups; check the full institution list for your situation.

Parents or guardians can buy on behalf of a listed eligible student; being a parent alone does not qualify. Apple limits MacBook purchases to one per year across its online and direct stores and may recheck eligibility. Complete [Apple's current online UNiDAYS or in-store verification](https://www.apple.com/jp-edu/shop/help/payments) and use the store for your country of residence.

| Buyer situation | Route status | Next step |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Student at a listed eligible institution | Potential education route | Have Apple confirm current qualification |
| Admitted pupil with progression decided | Potential education route | Check the admission basis with Apple |
| Parent buying for an eligible student | Potential proxy purchase | Confirm the student's eligibility and proxy process with Apple |
| High-school status alone, no other qualifying basis | Do not infer eligibility | Use ordinary retail or ask Apple about a separate qualifying basis |
| Qualification or annual allowance unclear | Unresolved | Clarify with Apple before relying on the education amount |

## Put both offers on the same configuration line.

Write generation, size, chip, CPU/GPU option where relevant, memory, storage, colour, keyboard, retail part number and included adapter/accessories. Also match condition and the tax basis. For an iPad comparison, include the exact generation, size, storage and connectivity variant. Do not compare only the family name or monthly installment.

One current configuration in [Apple Japan's catalogue](https://www.apple.com/jp-edu/shop/buy-mac/macbook-air) is shown below as an identity example. It is not an offer, price recommendation or proof of New Year eligibility. The unresolved fields must be filled from the actual offers before you call them identical.

| Field | Current example | Still required for an offer |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Device | 13-inch MacBook Air with M5 | Exact retail part number or equivalent full specification |
| Chip option | 10-core CPU; 8-core GPU | The same CPU/GPU option in both offers |
| Memory and storage | 16GB; 512GB | The same capacities in both offers |
| Colour | Silver | The same declared colour |
| Keyboard and box contents | Not established by this example | Keyboard layout; chosen adapter and all included accessories |
| Sale terms | Not established by this example | New condition, seller, availability, Japan delivery, JPY and tax basis |

Copy this line and fill the brackets: "[device/generation/size] | [chip/CPU/GPU] | [memory/storage] | [colour/keyboard] | [part number/adapter/accessories] | new | Japan | JPY | [ordinary retail or verified education route]". Keep any charged-card promotion in its own transaction notes.

## Do not subtract future credit twice.

The expired [2025](https://web.archive.org/web/20250105132925/https://www.apple.com/jp/shop/gifts/new-year/terms-conditions) and [2026 Apple terms](https://megalodon.jp/2026-0102-0025-40/https://www.apple.com:443/jp/shop/gifts/new-year/terms-conditions) describe a device discount corresponding to the promotional card, while charging every cart item including that card. The card is for subsequent purchases. Record the device discount once, the billed device line and any required charged-card line; the card's face value is separate future value.

This is a fictional arithmetic example, not an Apple price, campaign benefit or eligible model. It assumes no shipping charge solely for the example. The required transaction charges are ¥100,000; they are not a ¥90,000 cash purchase.

| Fictional ledger line | Amount | Treatment |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Device before stipulated discount | ¥100,000 | Starting figure only |
| Stipulated immediate device discount | -¥10,000 | Apply once to the device |
| Device amount billed | ¥90,000 | Required charge |
| Required promotional card billed | ¥10,000 | Add to required transaction charges |
| Required transaction charges | ¥100,000 | ¥90,000 + ¥10,000; stipulated shipping ¥0 |
| Restricted credit for later Apple use | ¥10,000 | Show separately; do not subtract again |

[Apple's current payment guidance](https://www.apple.com/jp/shop/help/payments) says a credit card may be authorized at order and is charged when the product ships. "Required transaction charges" is not a promise that all money is charged on the order date; check your payment method and order details.

For a real offer, missing shipping or another required charge stays unknown. [Apple credit is restricted future-use value](https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/giftcards/jp/terms.html), not ordinary cash. If you would not otherwise make the later purchase, do not give the credit an automatic full cash value. Keep a device-plus-card package outside a plain device item-price ranking.

## Avoid three traps in a past benefits table.

These rows summarize expired Apple-authored terms read through dated public archives. They explain how the route worked; they are not offers you can claim now. In particular, current M5 catalogue availability does not put M5 into an older campaign or a future one.

| Campaign | Historical MacBook Air rows | Current use |
| --- | --- | --- |
| January 2-5, 2025: expired | 13-inch M2; 13-inch M3; 15-inch M3 | Education-store purchases excluded in those terms |
| January 2-5, 2026: expired | 13-inch and 15-inch M4 | Education-store purchases excluded in those terms |
| January 2027: unconfirmed here | Dates, devices, benefits and combinations unknown | Wait for full current terms before claiming entitlement |

- **A past generation becomes a current entitlement.** Keep the expired rows dated. M5 catalogue availability does not establish January 2027 eligibility. Counter-move: Read the new full model row before claiming a benefit.
- **A card is used before the return decision.** The [2026 terms](https://megalodon.jp/2026-0102-0025-40/https://www.apple.com:443/jp/shop/gifts/new-year/terms-conditions) linked refunds to returning promotional items, with deductions for a used or unreturned card. Counter-move: Read the applicable campaign's refund terms before spending its credit.
- **Different promotions are stacked by assumption.** Expired education exclusions do not settle 2027; neither do they establish combinations with spring promotions, trade-in or payment points. Counter-move: Confirm each current combination. If the device is needed before announcements, compare the qualified cash routes available now without forecasting a January discount.

## Finish these checks before accepting an offer.

Keep qualification, hardware and transaction arithmetic in separate notes so a lower displayed device line does not hide a required card charge.

1. **Confirm the buyer route** Use Apple's eligibility check for education pricing. Record ordinary retail, verified education or currently verified device-plus-card promotion; unresolved qualification stays unresolved.
2. **Complete the exact configuration** Fill all material configuration and package fields, including keyboard, part number and adapter. An unresolved difference blocks an identical-offer claim.
3. **Read terms for the actual purchase date** For a promotion, confirm Japan market, full eligible model row, period, buyer exclusions, combinations and refund conditions from the current terms.
4. **Add every required billed line** Record the source-backed immediate discount, device charge, required charged card and any other mandatory charge. Keep restricted later credit separate and check payment timing.
5. **Verify the real offer** Check actual seller, new condition, current availability, delivery to your Japan address, JPY, tax basis and any membership requirements. Show shipping as free, a verified charge or unknown.
6. **Compare the accepted route** Rank eligible identical plain-device offers by verified item price only, with shipping separately. For device-plus-card promotions, retain the full transaction ledger and later credit as a separate planning choice.

Save the offer URLs, check date and filled configuration line. Share them with the student or family member making the decision; do not share student-verification documents through Muchita.

## Compare your plain device offers in JPY.

On a phone, the manual comparison lets you enter plain-device offers you have checked. Its interface is currently English. Confirm JPY in the currency control; a Japanese product label or the word Japan is not a currency setting. Edit the product label to include your confirmed keyboard, part number and box contents before accepting matching offers.

The current M5 example below starts an editable label, not a fully verified offer. Use it only if it is the configuration you selected and complete its unresolved fields. Keep education verification and any charged-card ledger in your own worksheet: the manual product comparison does not store those qualifications or calculate promotional entitlement.

- **Start with the current M5 identity example** 13-inch M5, 10-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 16GB, 512GB, Silver. Complete keyboard, part and adapter; choose a plain purchase route first. [Edit the M5 comparison label](https://shopping.muchita.ai/check-price/#guide=apple-new-year-education-en&query=MacBook%20Air%2013-inch%20M5%2010-core%20CPU%208-core%20GPU%2016GB%20512GB%20Silver%20new%20Japan&manual=1)
- **Use your own exact Mac or iPad configuration** After choosing the route, enter the full accepted product/package label and confirm JPY. [Open a manual comparison](https://shopping.muchita.ai/check-price/#guide=apple-new-year-education-en&manual=1)

- Manual entry does not verify eligibility, stock, tax, delivery or package equivalence. It calculates from the figures you enter.
- Muchita is free, has no affiliate links or paid placement, and starts only when asked. Store searches use desktop Chrome, take time and cover new in-stock offers; confirm your shopping country.
- Muchita does not calculate coupons or cashback and has no continuous or backfilled price history, scheduled monitoring or price-drop alerts. Shipping is separate; retailer links and checkout are not modified.

## Questions and answers

### Is Apple's Japan New Year sale or education pricing cheaper?

There is no universal answer. Confirm education qualification, choose the identical device/package and compare every required charged line. A future Apple card is separate restricted value, not another cash discount. January 2027 benefits remain unknown here.

### Can a high-school student use Apple Japan education pricing?

Not on high-school status alone. Apple includes pupils admitted to specified eligible institutions with progression decided, alongside its other listed categories. Ask Apple to confirm your exact basis.

### Can a parent buy at the education price?

Apple permits proxy purchases for listed eligible students. Parent status by itself does not qualify. Confirm the student's eligibility and follow Apple's verification process.

### Can education pricing and New Year benefits be combined?

The expired 2025 and 2026 New Year terms excluded education-store purchases. January 2027 combination rules are not established here. Read the new full terms rather than assuming either combination or exclusion.

### Is the gift-card face value deducted from the cash charge?

Do not deduct it automatically. The historical mechanism includes a device discount and a required charged-card line. Add every required charge and keep later credit separately. In the fictional example, ¥90,000 device plus ¥10,000 card requires ¥100,000.

### Is the entire amount charged when I order?

For current Apple Japan credit-card orders, Apple says authorization may reserve funds at order and the card is charged at shipment. Check your actual payment method and order details; the ledger totals required charges, not a universal charge date.

### Is current M5 MacBook Air eligible for January 2027?

This guide has no confirmed 2027 model list. Its current M5 configuration is only an identity example; it is not historical or future promotion eligibility.

### Can I compare offers from a phone in Japanese yen?

Yes, by entering offers you have verified in the manual comparison and confirming JPY. The interface is currently English. Complete the exact product label; keep buyer qualification and charged-card arithmetic separately.
