# SEC 2027 textbooks: match the school booklist and ISBN

Use your school’s 2027 booklist before buying for the first SEC examinations. A subject can be taken at G1, G2 or G3. [SEAB says the examination modes and overall standards remain aligned with the existing levels](https://www.seab.gov.sg/secondary-education-certificate-sec/); the SEC name alone does not make every O-Level-labelled book obsolete.

## In short

- Start with the school’s exact subject level, title, volume, edition and ISBN. The MOE approved list is not your personal shopping list.
- Additional Maths 360 Volume A textbook ISBN 9789814825160 and the Extra Practice Workbook ISBN 9789814941624 are different products, despite similar listing titles.

## What SEC changes for book buyers

[The first SEC examinations are in 2027](https://www.seab.gov.sg/secondary-education-certificate-sec/). G1, G2 and G3 correspond to the existing N(T), N(A) and O-Level subject standards respectively. Follow the level of each subject; one student’s books need not all carry the same level.

[MOE’s approved textbook list](https://www.moe.gov.sg/education-in-sg/approved-textbook-list) can help check approved titles. It does not establish which edition or workbook your school requires. ## Do these two ISBNs match?

An ISBN match is an edition-identity check, not school approval or proof that a used copy includes an unused access code. Use public ISBNs only.

- **ISBN on your school booklist** Type 10 or 13 characters. Spaces and hyphens are accepted.
- **ISBN on the seller’s actual copy** Ask for a back-cover photo if the listing does not show it.
- **Subject level on the school list** G1; G2; G3; Not yet confirmed

## A real textbook / workbook mix-up

On 9 October 2026, [IB Professional’s textbook listing](https://www.ibprofessional.com.sg/product/additional-maths-360-textbook-volume-a/) identified ISBN 9789814825160. [POPULAR’s similarly named Volume A listing](https://popular.com.sg/products/o-level-additional-maths-360-volume-a-2nd-edition) describes an Extra Practice Workbook; its product data gives SKU and barcode 9789814941624. The workbook supplements the textbook. Neither example establishes a 2027 school requirement.

## Four details a search title can hide

- **SEC does not mean Secondary 1.** A listing called “Sec 1” normally describes the school year. It is not evidence that the book is for the Secondary Education Certificate.
- **Volume A does not include Volume B.** Check whether the school requires one or both. Compare identical quantities and bundles.
- **A used textbook may be incomplete.** Ask about writing, missing pages, detachable answers and access codes. A matching ISBN does not answer those questions.
- **The approved list is not the class list.** Follow your school and teacher for the exact level and edition. Avoid a full-set purchase while those instructions are pending.

1. **Copy the school line.** Record the subject level, title, textbook/workbook role, volume, edition and ISBN from the latest 2027 list.
2. **Inspect the offered copy.** Use the actual back-cover ISBN, not a search snippet. Ask for a photo when a marketplace seller leaves it out.
3. **Check what comes with it.** For second-hand books, verify pages, annotations and any required online access. Leave unresolved conditions unknown.
4. **Compare eligible item prices.** Compare the same edition, quantity, condition, currency and tax basis. Check seller, availability and purchase requirements. Show delivery charges separately; unknown delivery charges are not free.

## Questions and answers

### Do I need all-new books because SEC begins in 2027?

The new certificate name alone does not establish that. Follow your school’s exact 2027 list and subject-level instructions.

### Does G3 mean the old O-Level standard?

SEAB maps G3 to the existing O-Level subject standard. That mapping does not approve every legacy book for your class.

### Can a workbook replace the textbook?

Only if your school explicitly permits it. The Additional Maths example shows why similar titles are not enough.

### Can ISBN-10 and ISBN-13 be the same book?

Yes. The matcher validates and converts a valid ISBN-10 into its corresponding 978 ISBN-13 before comparison.

### Does a matching ISBN prove an access code works?

No. Ask whether the required code is included, unused and valid for your course.

### Is a 2026 booklist safe to use for 2027?

It is useful context, but not confirmation. Wait for the new list or a written instruction from your school.
