Japan purchase-route check · Updated October 4, 2026

Apple Japan:
New Year sale or education pricing?

Compare what you pay for the same device, then consider Apple credit you can use later. Check education eligibility first. A promotional card is not another cash discount to subtract from the amount charged. January 2027 campaign terms remain unconfirmed here as of October 4, 2026.

In short

Apple determines education eligibility, including admitted-student and parent-proxy conditions.

Match the exact device and package. Add every compulsory charge, and show later Apple credit separately.

The 2025 and 2026 examples are expired; January 2027 dates, models, benefits and combinations are not established.

Japan purchase decision

Which route fits the buyer, before any gift-card calculation?

If you qualify for Japan education pricing, compare it with ordinary retail for the same new device. For a card promotion, also ask whether you already planned a later Apple purchase that could use the credit. Your eligibility, configuration and planned use of the card determine which route is useful.

On October 4, 2026, Apple's live New Year terms address redirects to the Japan store; this guide has no confirmed January 2027 campaign dates, eligible models, benefits or combination rules. You can still check current qualified education and ordinary retail offers without assuming a future promotion.

Ordinary Japan retail The seller offers the same new configuration on terms you can use Verified outright item price on the same tax/currency basis

Apple decides qualification

Admission and parent-proxy rules matter.

Apple's Japan education terms cover specified higher-education students and pupils admitted to those institutions with progression decided. A high-school student is not eligible merely because they are a student. The listed categories also include eligible staff, active or elected PTA officials and specified preparatory/vocational groups; check the full institution list for your situation.

Parents or guardians can buy on behalf of a listed eligible student; being a parent alone does not qualify. Apple limits MacBook purchases to one per year across its online and direct stores and may recheck eligibility. Complete Apple's current online UNiDAYS or in-store verification and use the store for your country of residence.

Same family is not enough

Put both offers on the same configuration line.

Write generation, size, chip, CPU/GPU option where relevant, memory, storage, colour, keyboard, retail part number and included adapter/accessories. Also match condition and the tax basis. For an iPad comparison, include the exact generation, size, storage and connectivity variant. Do not compare only the family name or monthly installment.

One current configuration in Apple Japan's catalogue is shown below as an identity example. It is not an offer, price recommendation or proof of New Year eligibility. The unresolved fields must be filled from the actual offers before you call them identical.

Money charged; credit later

A ¥10,000 card is not another ¥10,000 off.

The expired 2025 and 2026 Apple terms, under their campaign-details heading, give the device a discount equal to the promotional card and charge every cart item, including the card. They permit the card only on a later purchase. Count the device discount once, add the charged card, and record its later credit separately.

This fictional arithmetic example assumes a ¥100,000 device, a ¥10,000 discount and a charged ¥10,000 card. It is not an Apple price or campaign benefit. With shipping stipulated at ¥0, you must pay ¥100,000 for the transaction, while retaining ¥10,000 for later Apple use.

Fictional purchase line Amount How to count it
Device before stipulated discount ¥100,000 Starting figure only
Stipulated immediate device discount -¥10,000 Apply once to the device
Device amount billed ¥90,000 Pay for the device
Required promotional card billed ¥10,000 Also pay for the card
Total compulsory charges ¥100,000 ¥90,000 device + ¥10,000 card; example shipping ¥0
Credit for a later Apple purchase ¥10,000 Separate future value; do not subtract again
Device before stipulated discount¥100,000

Apple's current credit-card guidance distinguishes authorization at order from charging at shipment. The table adds what the transaction requires you to pay; it does not claim that every payment method charges on the order date.

For a real offer, show shipping separately as free, + a verified charge shipping, or unknown/may be added. Unknown shipping cannot establish a numeric total. Apple credit is restricted to Apple use and generally cannot be cashed out. Give it value only for a later purchase you would otherwise make. Compare a device-plus-card package separately from a plain device.

History, not an entitlement

Avoid three traps in a past benefits table.

These rows summarize expired Apple-authored terms read through dated public archives. They explain how the route worked; they are not offers you can claim now. In particular, current M5 catalogue availability does not put M5 into an older campaign or a future one.

One short worksheet

Keep these three records for your purchase.

Use the configuration line and arithmetic table above to fill these records. A lower device charge alone does not settle a card promotion.

  1. Buyer and exact device.

Record ordinary retail or Apple-verified education eligibility. Fill the full configuration, keyboard, part number, adapter and contents. Confirm the seller, new condition, availability, Japan delivery, JPY and tax basis.

  2. Current promotion, if used.

Save the full terms for the actual purchase date: buyer eligibility, exact model row, period, permitted combinations and refund conditions. Add the discounted device charge and any required charged card; keep later credit separately.

  3. Item comparison and purchase budget.

Rank eligible identical plain-device offers by verified item price only. Show shipping separately as free, + a verified charge shipping, or unknown/may be added. For a device-plus-card promotion, compare the complete required transaction and planned later credit separately from the plain device ranking.

Keep the offer URLs, check date and filled configuration line. Use Apple's own verification process for student documents.

After the route and configuration are chosen

Compare your plain device offers in JPY.

For plain-device offers you have verified, open the manual comparison and choose JPY. Its interface is currently English; the word Japan in the product label does not set the currency. Complete the keyboard, part number and box contents in the label.

The M5 example button starts an editable product label. Use it only for that chosen configuration and complete the missing fields. Keep education qualification, required card charges and later credit in your own notes: the product comparison does not verify them.

Start with the current M5 identity example

13-inch M5, 10-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 16GB, 512GB, Silver. Complete keyboard, part and adapter; choose a plain purchase route first.

Edit the M5 comparison label

Use your own exact Mac or iPad configuration

After choosing the route, enter the full accepted product/package label and confirm JPY.

Questions and answers

Fair questions,
plain answers.

Can a high-school student use Apple Japan education pricing?

Not on high-school status alone. Apple includes pupils admitted to specified eligible institutions with progression decided, alongside its other listed categories. Ask Apple to confirm your exact basis.

Can a parent buy at the education price?

Apple permits proxy purchases for listed eligible students. Parent status by itself does not qualify. Confirm the student's eligibility and follow Apple's verification process.

Can education pricing and New Year benefits be combined?

The expired 2025 and 2026 New Year terms excluded education-store purchases. January 2027 combination rules are not established here. Read the new full terms rather than assuming either combination or exclusion.

Is the gift-card face value deducted from the cash charge?

Do not deduct it automatically. The historical mechanism includes a device discount and a required charged-card line. Add every required charge and keep later credit separately. In the fictional example, ¥90,000 device plus ¥10,000 card requires ¥100,000.

Is current M5 MacBook Air eligible for January 2027?

This guide has no confirmed 2027 model list. Its current M5 configuration is only an identity example; it is not historical or future promotion eligibility.

Can I compare offers from a phone in Japanese yen?

Yes, by entering offers you have verified in the manual comparison and confirming JPY. The interface is currently English. Complete the exact product label; keep buyer qualification and charged-card arithmetic separately.
