France's national winter soldes run January 6-February 2, 2027; Belgium's run January 2-31. These dates follow existing legal rules. Other markets and French exceptions need their own calendar. Use the sale period to find a suitable exact product, then check its reference price, condition and return route before paying.
France and Belgium have statutory winter-sale calendars; Sicily has published January 5-March 15, 2027. A retailer campaign elsewhere should be checked with that retailer, not inferred from another country's date.
Clearance often includes older or end-of-line stock, but the label does not establish its age, condition or value. Compare the exact outgoing model with that same model, not a replacement's list price.
Reduced prices do not remove statutory remedies. A faulty item, an online change of mind and an in-store goodwill return follow different routes; check the country, seller and product exceptions.
This guide is written and published by the Muchita team. The calendar
Winter-sale dates, with their scope.
France normally starts on January's second Wednesday, moving to the first when the second falls after the 12th. January 13, 2027 triggers that rule, so the national start is January 6 at 8am. Belgium normally starts January 3; because that is a Sunday in 2027, its start moves to January 2. These are calendar calculations from rules in force on October 4, 2026.

The French annex lists winter exceptions for Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Moselle, Vosges and several overseas areas. Its Corsican exception is for summer, so it does not change the national winter start. No survey of all Italian 2027 regional announcements was completed for this English guide.
The core skill
Check the reduction, then the product.
A headline percentage answers how the seller chose a reference. Your buying decision also needs today's price for the same product. The invented euro example below assumes equivalent new stock, currency, tax basis and purchase terms; it is not a retailer offer.
Invented exact-model comparison
Amount
What it establishes
Sale ticket: previous EUR200, now EUR120
EUR80 / 40% off that reference
Valid arithmetic; the EUR200 price history still needs evidence.
Another equivalent offer now
EUR125
EUR120 is EUR5 lower in item price, a 4% difference from EUR125.
Shipping: sale EUR15, other offer free
Budgets EUR135 and EUR125
The EUR120 offer keeps the lower item price. The known shipping changes the budget.

Identify the outgoing model. Record the full code, size/capacity, colour and included accessories. Verify support and spare parts for that model rather than assuming that discontinued means unsupported.
Find what the reference means. EU announced reductions generally use the trader's lowest prior price over at least 30 days, subject to national exceptions. An RRP or another shop's price is a different comparator, not proof of that history.
Read the condition. New boxed stock, a display unit and a customer return need separate condition comparisons. Ask for written confirmation and the included warranty or seller guarantee.
Compare item prices, then budget separately. Keep shipping free, a stated amount or unknown. Return postage and other charges belong in the budget; they do not reverse an item-price ranking.
Know them by sight
The traps, and the counter-move for each.
These checks resolve different reasons a clearance ticket can fail your needs.
Wrong reference model. A new generation's list price cannot establish the outgoing generation's prior price. Counter-move: save the exact outgoing code and a dated observation for that code.
Wrong size or colour. The cheaper remaining variant may not be the one you need. Counter-move: fix your required variant before comparing amounts.
Unclear new/display/returned condition. A display unit is not interchangeable with boxed new stock. Counter-move: record condition and missing accessories in writing; compare like with like.
No-return sign. A voluntary store return policy and statutory remedies answer different questions. Counter-move: identify whether your issue is a fault, an online cancellation or an in-store change of mind, then use the relevant route below.
Return postage omitted. An online change-of-mind return can leave postage to the buyer, while defective-goods returns have a different cost rule. Counter-move: read the seller's return instructions and record any cost before buying.
Future markdown assumed. There is no verified future price or stock sequence in this guide. Counter-move: use your budget and deadline, and recheck the exact variant instead of promising yourself a later saving.
Voucher treated as cash. A voucher may have expiry, exclusions or a minimum spend. Counter-move: check those terms and keep a required extra purchase out of the claimed item saving.
Replacement features assumed. A similar-looking appliance may lack a feature or fitting you need. Counter-move: check the old model's own specification and any installation requirements.
What the law already promises
Choose the correct returns and price rule.
The summaries concern purchases from professional traders. Country rules and exceptions matter; an EU summary does not establish an identical remedy for every product or seller.
EU: a prior-price reference
The general EU reduction rule uses the seller's lowest prior price in at least the preceding 30 days. Do not confuse that reference with a manufacturer's recommended price or a different seller's current offer. National exceptions need checking.
For goods, withdrawal generally runs for 14 days from delivery. Exceptions include made-to-order goods and some unsealed/digital purchases. Buyers normally pay return postage if informed before purchase, unless the seller agrees to pay. Private-seller purchases are outside these rules.
Statutory remedies survive a reduced price. The seller must generally repair or replace free of charge; a full or partial refund can follow if that is impossible or cannot be done within a reasonable time without significant inconvenience. National law can add protection.
Products must have been offered for at least a month before the soldes, and sellers cannot replenish soldes stock. Both new and used goods can be included. A soldes ticket therefore does not by itself mean last season's new goods.
The statutory winter window is January 3-31, advanced to January 2 when the 3rd is a Sunday. This is the reason for the 2027 date, not a forecast of individual offers.
Sale purchases keep the same statutory rights as full-price purchases. In-person change-of-mind refunds are generally the retailer's policy. Distance buyers generally notify cancellation within 14 days of receiving goods and then have another 14 days to return them; exceptions apply. A later fault can require repair/replacement before a refund. A defect disclosed before purchase is not the same as a newly discovered fault.
Example: if a clearance coat simply does not fit, first identify whether you bought online or in person and read the return policy. If a cooker is faulty, report the fault to the seller rather than asking only for a goodwill exchange. Keep the receipt and the product/condition description.
Follow the money
How to use a deal roundup.
A publisher may earn affiliate commission when a reader buys. That creates a potential incentive; it does not prove that a particular ranking is biased or that an omitted store is cheaper. Check the roundup's own disclosure and comparison method.
What was compared? Look for exact models, current dates and comparable conditions. A roundup naming a product family cannot verify your selected variant.
What does the percentage compare? Ask whether the reference is the seller's earlier price, an RRP or another seller's current amount.
Can you inspect the offer? Open the seller page and verify the conditions yourself. A link is a way to inspect a claim, not proof that the claim is correct.
Muchita is free and has no affiliate links or paid placement. It starts only when requested and does not alter retailer links or checkout. A separate current offer check is still needed before using a result.
Before you pay
The clearance buying check.
Use a dated record of the exact offer rather than an assumed shopping time. A screenshot is one observation; it does not establish the full 30-day minimum.
Fix the exact product and condition.
Write the full model, variant, package and new/display/used state.
Record the current amount and its reference.
Save the offer URL and date. Separate a prior price, RRP, instalment and full item amount.
Compare equivalent current offers.
Confirm seller, stock, currency, tax and purchase requirements, then compare verified normalized item prices.
Check your return route.
Identify online or in-person purchase, change of mind or fault, exceptions and any return postage.
Record shipping and keep the evidence.
Show shipping separately as free, a stated charge or unknown. Check the budget and preserve the receipt, offer description and return terms.
Where Muchita fits
What Muchita does in a clearance, and what it does not.
Muchita Shopping is a free desktop Chrome extension that starts when you ask it to check an exact product. It compares eligible new, in-stock offers using verified normalized item prices, discloses shipping separately and links offer evidence. There is no account, affiliate commission or paid placement.
It can help with the current-offer step. It does not validate a store's complete prior-price history, the condition of a display unit or your legal remedy. Search coverage may be incomplete.
New in-stock exact-product offers only; used, refurbished and ex-display clearance stock is outside this check.
Saved products retain local observations when refreshed; no continuous/backfilled history, scheduled monitoring or price-drop alerts.
No coupons, cashback or rewards are applied. Checks take time; no duration or lowest-in-market guarantee is made.
Price checking runs in desktop Chrome. Shipping and return costs remain separate from item-price ranking.
Questions and answers
Fair questions, plain answers.
When do the January sales 2027 start?
France's national soldes run January 6-February 2. Belgium runs January 2-31 under its Sunday exception. Sicily has published January 5-March 15. Check other Italian regional calendars and retailer-specific campaigns; these dates do not confirm individual offers or stock.
Why does France start on January 6 rather than January 13?
The second Wednesday is January 13, which is after the 12th, so the ministerial rule advances the start to the first Wednesday. The national four-week period ends February 2. Specified physical-store areas have exceptions; Corsica's annex exception is for summer.
Does clearance always mean old stock?
No. It often describes older or end-of-line stock, but the label alone cannot establish age or condition. France has specific soldes stock requirements; those rules should not be treated as the definition of every clearance elsewhere.
What does up to 70% off mean for my item?
It is a maximum advertised reduction, not the discount on every variant. Use the exact item's price and reference, then compare equivalent current offers.
Can a shop refuse returns on a sale item?
A reduced price does not remove statutory remedies. A fault and a change of mind are different: EU fault remedies generally start with repair/replacement, while qualifying online purchases generally have a withdrawal right with exceptions. In-store goodwill returns depend on the policy. Check your country and seller.
Is there an official German winter-sale date?
No statutory seasonal-sales window remains, according to the linked IHK explanation. WSV is not tied to a fixed period. Check the retailer's campaign rather than waiting for a national start.
Should I wait for another markdown?
No future price or stock sequence was verified here. Decide using your exact variant, current item price, budget and deadline, and recheck if you wait.
Does Muchita earn from my purchase?
No. It is free, with no affiliate links or paid placement. It checks eligible exact-product offers when asked, ranks verified normalized item prices and discloses shipping separately.
