GTINs and product bundles.
Two listings can show the same product name and sell different purchases. Before comparing prices, match the complete model, variant, package and condition, then check whether you can actually buy each offer.

What counts as the same product?
Write one sentence describing what you want: full model, generation, storage or size, colour, region, included parts and condition. Use it for every seller. A cheaper alternative may suit you, but it does not establish a lower price for that exact purchase.
The US FTC's comparison-shopping guidance recommends recording manufacturer or model details and reading the full offer terms. Also verify availability, seller identity, currency, tax basis and any membership or trade-in requirement. Confirm that the seller delivers to your required market before presenting it as a qualifying offer. This check is separate from the product's regional version and from an unknown shipping charge.

Find and cross-check the identifiers
Keep the product page open while checking the identifiers. A search result is a lead; the selected offer must support the match.
Copy the complete code
Look in the specification table, packaging label or manufacturer support page. Preserve suffixes and record the brand with the manufacturer part number (MPN), not just a shop's stock code. Google's linked MPN guidance says not to guess: variants typically have different MPNs, although apparel sizes can share one.
Search the brand and code together
Find the manufacturer's matching specification or manual. Check the generation and selected configuration against it. If the title, code and specification disagree, ask the seller which item will ship.
Check the GTIN when supplied
UPC and EAN are GTIN types described in Google's linked guidance. Copy the supplied number without guessing digits. Verified by GS1 checks the number's structure, the associated company and available product data; no available record means that check remains unresolved.
Check what the code does not answer
Read the selected variant, package inventory, condition, seller delivery eligibility for your market and purchase terms. Save the URL, date and relevant wording. Missing product data in a lookup is an unresolved check, not permission to assume a match.

Numbers have limits
Why a matching identifier is not enough
Under GS1's assortment rule, changing an item in a fixed physical bundle requires a new GTIN. But Google's listing rules let a seller-created bundle use the main product's GTIN. That is why you must read the included-items list even when numbers match.
Google's merchant guidance also uses manufacturer GTINs for used goods, with condition declared separately. A familiar barcode therefore does not establish new condition. Different numbers need investigation: verify package and market details before deciding whether the underlying devices match.
Check the actual unit
Read condition and region as separate fields
For refurbished, used or open-box stock, ask about wear, testing, missing accessories, battery information where relevant, returns and the named warranty provider. The FTC's marketplace guidance recommends actual-item photographs and written answers. A stock photo cannot establish the condition of that unit.
For an unfamiliar regional version, confirm the full model suffix, intended market, compatibility and supplied plug or keyboard where relevant. Read the warranty terms for your country. Do not treat a language selector or the seller's location as proof of the product's region.
Common traps
Pause when these details disagree
- A broad title. The title names a family; the selected option names a different capacity or generation. Check after selecting.
- An accessory price. A replacement case, compatible cable or single earbud is not the complete product shown in the headline.
- A conditional amount. A monthly instalment, trade-in balance or member price is not an ordinary outright price. Record the requirement.
- An invented bundle deduction. Do not subtract the seller's claimed accessory value to manufacture a standalone device price.
After the identity and purchase checks, enter the matching item amounts in the worksheet. Select the same currency and comparable quantities, keep shipping separate, and preserve the source URL/date. The arithmetic does not perform these identity checks.

Is the same model name enough?

Are MPN and GTIN the same?
