What counts as the same product?

Write one sentence describing what you want: full model, generation, storage or size, colour, region, included parts and condition. Use it for every seller. A cheaper alternative may suit you, but it does not establish a lower price for that exact purchase.

Find and cross-check the identifiers

Keep the product page open while checking the identifiers. A search result is a lead; the selected offer must support the match.

  1. Copy the complete code

    Look in the specification table, packaging label or manufacturer support page. Preserve suffixes. Record the brand and manufacturer part number (MPN), not just the shop's stock code. Google's MPN guidance distinguishes manufacturer identifiers and product variants.

  2. Search the brand and code together

    Find the manufacturer's matching specification or manual. Check the generation and selected configuration against it. If the title, code and specification disagree, ask the seller which item will ship.

  3. Check the GTIN when supplied

Why a matching identifier is not enough

Under GS1's assortment rule, changing an item in a fixed physical bundle requires a new GTIN. But Google's listing rules let a seller-created bundle use the main product's GTIN. That is why you must read the included-items list even when numbers match.

Google also instructs sellers to use manufacturer GTINs for used products while declaring condition separately. Do not infer new condition from a familiar barcode. Conversely, different numbers need investigation, not an automatic conclusion that the underlying devices differ: check package and market details with the manufacturer.

Check the actual unit

Read condition and region as separate fields

For refurbished, used or open-box stock, ask about wear, testing, missing accessories, battery information where relevant, returns and the named warranty provider. The FTC's marketplace guidance recommends actual-item photographs and written answers. A stock photo cannot establish the condition of that unit.

For an unfamiliar regional version, confirm the full model suffix, intended market, compatibility and supplied plug or keyboard where relevant. Read the warranty terms for your country. Do not treat a language selector or the seller's location as proof of the product's region.

No. An MPN is manufacturer-assigned; a GTIN is a trade-item identifier. Record both when available.

No. Number validity and associated records do not authenticate the physical unit a seller will deliver.
