School supplies checklist

A starting list for primary-school supplies. Check what you already have, then adapt the items and quantities to your teacher's current instructions. This is a general starter, not an official list for your class.

Your checklist ↓

Confirm notebook ruling, required colours and sizes, and what the school provides. The quantities here are starting amounts, not a full year's allocation.

Before you shop

Check the cupboard first

Gather last year's supplies and try the zips, pens and glue. Mark usable items as already owned, then buy only the missing quantities. A working pencil case does not need replacing for a new school year.

Match the notebook details

Check the requested ruling or square size, page size and cover colour before buying. Buy the confirmed quantity first; a large multipack is poor value if the class uses a different format.

Test the bag with actual folders

Put the largest required folder in the bag before choosing a size. Try opening the pencil case, bottle and lunch bag too, so daily equipment is easy to use. Check any school restrictions on wheels or accessories.

Confirm the specification before checking prices

For a new backpack, bottle, lunch bag or headphones, choose the required size and model first. Compare the same version, including headphone connector and bottle capacity. Keep optional extras skipped until your class asks for them.

Questions about this list

Does every child need everything on this list?

No. It is a primary-school starter. Your teacher's current list decides the required items, quantities and specifications; change or skip rows to match it. Target School List Assist also offers a school-and-class lookup in the US, but no class list has been imported here.

Which notebooks should I buy?

Use the exact ruling, square size and page format requested by the class. A notebook for one grade or subject may not suit another. Wait for clarification if the instructions are incomplete.

Can I reuse supplies from last year?

Yes, when they still work and match the class requirements. Check remaining pages, pencil lengths, dried markers and damaged fastenings. Buy replacements for what is missing or unsuitable, rather than a whole new set.
