A snapshot and a month-long claim need different evidence

A snapshot can document a displayed offer at a recorded moment, with its purchase conditions. Two comparable snapshots can show the difference between those moments. Neither proves what happened every hour in between.

A claim such as lowest throughout October needs evidence covering that period and a clear scope: which seller, variant, condition and eligible buyer? Checking more often reduces gaps; it does not automatically eliminate them. A personal log can still be useful without making an all-time or market-wide claim.

Ask what the reference represents. Amazon's US seller guidance distinguishes List Price, a suggested retail price, from Typical Price, based on the median price customers paid over the previous 90 days, excluding limited-time promotions. The UK ASA's savings guidance considers pricing history, sales data, timing and sales channel when assessing usual-price claims. For your own log, keep a seller's reference figure in a separate field from an actual dated offer. One cannot fill in for the other.

Copy these fields into a note or spreadsheet before shopping. The FTC recommends recording model details, reading offer terms and retaining purchase information.

  2. Add one dated row per check

Read the chart's scope

History tools can measure different things

Check the chart's market, seller coverage, dates and price basis. Google's US price-insights help says its typical-price assessment uses sellers across the web. Its 30-day-low information uses a total-price basis that usually includes discounts and shipping. That is different from this guide's item-price comparison; do not silently combine the two.

A refresh timestamp does not by itself prove a newly checked price. Keep a separate dated log and the original offer evidence for historical comparisons.
