before Black Friday
A price log helps you judge a Black Friday offer only if you know what it records. A dated price, a seller's reference price and a chart's lowest point answer different questions. Start with the dates and gaps, then decide whether today's checked offer meets your buying rule.

A snapshot and a month-long claim need different evidence
A snapshot can document a displayed offer at a recorded moment, with its purchase conditions. Two comparable snapshots can show the difference between those moments. Neither proves what happened every hour in between.
A claim such as lowest throughout October needs evidence covering that period and a clear scope: which seller, variant, condition and eligible buyer? Checking more often reduces gaps; it does not automatically eliminate them. A personal log can still be useful without making an all-time or market-wide claim.

A crossed-out price is not your missing history
Ask what the reference represents. Amazon's US seller guidance distinguishes List Price, a suggested retail price, from Typical Price, based on the median price customers paid over the previous 90 days, excluding limited-time promotions. A median is not a minimum. These Amazon.com definitions should not be assumed for other countries or retailers.
The UK ASA's savings guidance considers pricing history, sales data, timing and sales channel when assessing usual-price claims. For your own log, keep a seller's reference figure in a separate field from an actual dated offer. One cannot fill in for the other.

Build a small record you can use
Copy these fields into a note or spreadsheet before shopping. The FTC recommends recording model details, reading offer terms and retaining purchase information.
Define the item and comparison
Record model, variant, pack, condition, market and seller. Keep a same-seller timeline separate from a comparison of several sellers. Use the product-matching guide if identity is unclear.
Add one dated row per check
Save date, time, timezone, URL, selected variant, availability, item price, currency, tax basis and eligibility. Record shipping as free, an amount or unknown/may be added. Preserve a screenshot or note of the relevant terms.
Leave gaps and changes visible
Write not checked when you missed a date. If a coupon, seller, package or condition changes, mark it separately. Do not overwrite an older observation with today's amount.
Set a decision before the promotion
Write your maximum item price, latest acceptable arrival date and next check date. Buy when a verified eligible offer meets your needs; wait if you can accept the uncertainty. Never require history to predict tomorrow.

Read the chart's scope
History tools can measure different things
Check the chart's market, seller coverage, dates and price basis. Google's US price-insights help says its typical-price assessment uses sellers across the web. Its 30-day-low information uses a total-price basis that usually includes discounts and shipping. That is different from this guide's item-price comparison; do not silently combine the two.
Muchita Shopping lets you save a product and request Refresh prices in desktop Chrome. Saved history stays on your device. It is a convenience view, not a verified history for one seller. A refresh timestamp does not by itself prove a newly checked price. Keep a separate dated log and the original offer evidence for historical comparisons. Before deciding
Three mistakes a tidy chart can hide
- Joining unlike offers. A lower refurbished, member-only or different-seller point may answer a different question from your original timeline.
- Extending a line through a gap. A line between observations does not prove that the price stayed there. Read the timestamps.
- Turning a past low into a forecast. The old price may not return. Decide how much the item is worth to you and when you need it.
Compare today's checked offers in the price-comparison worksheet. Keep your dated log beside it. A Black Friday banner adds no missing observations.
